sinonó is a brief submergence, a string of choices, a container for the communion of rigor and failure. This NYC-based trio, featuring Isabel Crespo Pardo (voice), Lester St. Louis (cello), and Henry Fraser (bass), performs graphic scores and poemsongs composed by Crespo. Their affinity for melody, metaphor and abstraction draws them into familiar yet surprising environments, crackling with aliveness. sinonó has performed at venues such as Rhizome, Roulette Intermedium, Lincoln Center, and The DiMenna Center. They will release their debut album, la espalda y su punto radiante in early 2024 on Subtext Records. More at isabelcrespo.com/sinono
David Kontak is an instrument builder, musician, visual artist, and therapist. He lives with his family in Concord, NH. His early training was in visual arts, and he taught drawing and printmaking at Kent State University in the 80’s and 90’s. He also played upright bass and bass guitar in a variety of jazz and experimental musical ensembles. Around this time, David began to explore homemade instruments to extend the sonic options available to these groups. Soon, he developed a wide range of stringed and percussion instruments. David performs regularly as a solo artist on his inventions. He places an emphasis on movement, humor, and visual interest in his performances. He has recently worked with composer Andrea Clearfield on two major commissions: First, an opera entitled “Mila, the Great Sorcerer", and later a cantata called “Beyond the Binary.” In each project, David created numerous original instruments to create exotic and original sounds.
When not involved with musical projects, David works as a Professor at The Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. His focus is on clinical research and rehabilitation engineering. This field of study endeavors to design and build equipment that enhances participation and quality of life. Among other topics, he has presented widely on how to integrate students with disabilities into mainstream music ensembles using custom, adapted instruments.
This particular concert will include sections from his new album “Opposite Day, a Suite for Solo Double Bridge Guitar.”
Doors are at 7pm and music will begin no later than 8. Seating is first come first served.
