Party of the Sun is a psychedelic folk band from New Hampshire, comprised of Ethan McBrien, Rory Hurley, and Garrett Cameron. Since 2006, both McBrien and Hurley have recorded and performed together in various projects. Throughout his career, McBrien has always had an interest in folk music; writing many songs influenced by the Americana tradition.
In the fall of 2015, McBrien and Hurley began recording this material. These collaborative sessions at McBrien’s home - a small sheep farm in Marlborough, NH - were the impetus of what has become Party of the Sun. Since their inception, the band has released two full-length albums - Trekker and Fullest Hour, and five EPs - Lay Low, Goldenwood, and Capsule I, II, & III.
With coverage including Atwood Magazine, Under The Radar, Glide, UNXIGNED, For The Rabbits, and alexrainbirdMusic, Party of the Sun’s music has been described as heartfelt, warm, and meditative. Exploring themes of connectedness, time, nature, and fatherhood, Party of the Sun crafts timeless folk with nods to psychedelia and Americana.
Party of the Sun has been featured in television shows such as Deputy on Fox and Charmed on The CW. They have shared the stage with acts including Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Haley Heynderickx, William Tyler, Habibi, Robert Randolph, Footings, and more.
Eleanor Elektra is an interdisciplinary artist originally from the Pacific Northwest who fuses music and visual art. Driven by a deep connection with the environment, Eleanor’s songwriting focuses on issues of climate change and our collective disconnect with the Earth that houses, feeds, and sustains us. Combining elements of folk, jazz and classical music, Eleanor’s music soulfully paints a musical picture of the world as it is and as it could be.
Her most recent release, Exquisite Corpse, takes Eleanor’s art and activism to a new level. Artfully and urgently, the album paints a picture of the lives of young people growing up in the shadow of a changing climate and the catastrophe that will soon be upon us all if we do not act. Partnering with Extinction Rebellion MA, a local chapter of an international non-violent movement, whose overall ambition is an international rebellion that helps humanity to turn quickly onto a course that is compatible with life on earth, Eleanor is putting into words the feelings that come from living in this crucial time, but also urging listeners to act for the health of our planet.
Eleanor has toured extensively throughout the United States and Canada. She is based in Boston, MA and is a mainstay of the local music scene, performing at such venues as the House of Blues, the Lilypad, and Club Passim. Touring for The Exquisite Corpse will begin in spring 2020.
“Exquisite Corpse” is grander than Elektra’s debut full-length, “The Lumberjack,” a dynamic record that extracted maximum catharsis from just a pair of guitars and Elektra’s voice. On “Exquisite Corpse,” the complexity of her compositions, their sinuous melodies and unexpected cadences, deepens.
