Gabriela Martina & Maxim Lubarsky Duo w/ Miriam Sharrock

  • Brewbakers 48 Emerald St Keene, NH, 03431 United States (map)

Gabriela Martina and Maxim Lubarsky have been playing together in different musical settings since 2009 and formed this duo officially back in 2019. Both Gabriela Martina and Maxim Lubarsky are vivid performers who seek to approach music as a whole, defying any specific style or genre.

The project “Explorations in Sound” aims at creating music in the moment, drawing inspiration from various sources: from melodic shapes and sounds to improvisation on a poem and finding a unique approach to famous pop and jazz songs. Every performance is a journey into a world of creativity and imagination.

The audience is part of the creation process since what they will hear will be heard for the first time with every performance. Any given piece will always have a new twist. This approach leads us back to the passion of making music as genuine as a child at his/her first approach with the instrument.

Gabriela Martina is a vocalist, composer, and bandleader who grew up in Switzerland. She spent 13 years living and working in the US (Boston & New York) and resides now in Amsterdam (NL).

Martina has had the opportunity to perform and collaborate with heavyweights like Meshell Ndegeocello, Jack DeJohnette, and Angelique Kidjo. She has recorded with veteran drummer J.R. Robinson and was a semi-finalist in the Shure Voice Competition at the 2009 Montreux Jazz Festival.

Virtuoso at the piano, Maxim is a remarkable pianist, whose stylistic versatility and musicality makes him one of the most sought-after musicians.

Native of Odessa Ukraine, Maxim was originally trained as a classical pianist at famous Stolyarsky school of Music and Odessa State Conservatory. Already in school he has developed a passion for jazz and received a scholarship to come to Berklee College of Music to further his studies.

Miriam Sharrock studied composition with Heather Gilligan at Keene State College, where she graduated in 2014 with a BA in Music Composition. Miriam has composed works for choir, solo voice, piano, string quartet, orchestra and small ensemble. She enjoys collaborating with other artists, and has written music for projects involving dance, video, poetry, art and theater. All of Miriam’s composition training, and most of her composing experience has been within the classical genre, but in the last couple years she has been exploring within the singer-songwriter genre. Writing in this style is what originally got Miriam interested in composing when she was younger, so it feels a bit nostalgic to be working in this genre. The songs on this program are part of a larger project that is currently in process, made possible by Arts Alive.

Doors are at 7pm and music will begin at 8. Seating is first come first served. This program is presented by our dear friends and collaborators, The Osier Fund.
