False Whorl is the original music of Mike Puleo. The present realization being solo piano because that’s all he’s ever known but that could certainly change because, hey, not only do we contain multitudes but we’re also dynamic beings! Huzzah!
He hasn’t collaborated with anyone since 2007 (good old college) and has never opened for anyone of note but in typical fan-boy nature has forced himself into conversations with Bill Frisell, Marco Benevento, Fred Hersch, and Emmett Kelly (separate occasions of course). A former piano teacher once gave the exceptional praise of, “you have a left hand,” and his best friend from high school once simply exclaimed, “I was in another world,” while listening.
He has no proper recordings to speak of but has instead focused his efforts on sitting in a room and figuring out how music works and how pianos work (surprise surprise, one never fully figures it out). After an itinerant 15 years he’s settled down in southwest NH and is ready to honor the landscape as creative catalyst, in true ECM/Scandinavian jazz fashion. You get the picture!
