Cave In w/ Thalia Zedek

  • Brewbakers 48 Emerald St Keene, NH, 03431 United States (map)

Massachusetts-based rock band Cave In is known for music that's as sophisticated as it is hard hitting. Built from parts scavenged from heavy metal, indie rock, and progressive rock, early albums like 1998's Until Your Heart Stops documented Cave In's style featuring a strong thrash-metal accent along with a noisy undercurrent, but a greater sense of adventure came into focus on 2000's Jupiter, whose sound was likened to a cross between metalcore and Radiohead. The band adopted a more accessible attack, adding pop flavors to the edgy metal guitars for their major-label debut 2003's Antenna, but they dialed up the heaviness when they returned to the indies on releases like 2011's White Silence. The band was only sporadically active through the 2010s, but they returned to duty to honor a fallen comrade on 2019's Final Transmission. Three years later, they issued the punitive Heavy Pendulum.

Having worked with such widely respected underground alternative bands as Come, Live Skull, and Uzi (among others), frontwoman Thalia Zedek has enjoyed quite a long and illustrious career. A compelling vocalist with a weathered but expressive instrument and a guitarist whose style runs the gamut from introspective minimalism to free-form noise, the most constant element in Zedek's body of work is change. But as she's matured from the brutalism of her early work with Live Skull to her more measured and contemplative solo work of the 2010s, Zedek has firmly established herself as an eclectic artist whose signature creative voice burns brightly in any context.

This show is standing room only, though some seating will be made available for those that might need it. Post and Beam Brewery will be doing a tap takeover as well!
